Meet the characters of Project: Red War
Wolfpack Leader: Commander Yumi Kazuki
Codename: The Crimson Princess
Joined the military when she was 17 by faking an ID
o She cut her hair short and many assumed she was an 18-year-old male
Extensive combat history in The Great War, well decorated and well respected
Known for her bravery and courage, nothing scares Yumi
She got her nickname “Crimson Princess” after a battle in The Great War where most of her comrades were killed in action. In a last-ditch effort, Yumi stormed an enemy bunker equipped with only a knife and handgun both of which she took from her dead comrades
o She completely wiped the enemy bunker and returned to her superior officer to report her success and comrades’ casualties
o Her uniform was completely soaked in blood, earning her the nickname Crimson Princess.
o The Princess part comes from her beauty
She was known for being an excellent strategist and using intelligence on the enemy to its maximum potential
At the age of 24 she was promoted to Commander, becoming the youngest Commander in Nyx’s history
Her promotion was widely celebrated by the public but she had her fair share of critics among her comrades
Most of her comrades knew her as a fierce warrior with unending courage, but she was also known by some as a stubborn, bloodthirsty killer who would stop at nothing to satiate her bloodlust
She disagrees with anti-Red propaganda and tries to treat them with dignity and respect
o Her brother moved to Themis when the anti-Red propaganda started because he is a “Red”, Yumi is not
o The two drifted apart after Yumi joined the military, they are no longer in touch
As a Commander she is known for being quite aggressive in terms of strategy
o She often forces her squad into tough positions that they cannot handle because of a lack of training and experience
o She runs through squads very quickly
o Most of her soldiers only last one or two operations
o Although she tries to treat the “Reds” with respect, she doesn’t get to know them long enough to do so; she never knows them long enough to learn their names
She is eventually promoted to Wolfpack Alpha where she takes control of a unit that has been around for a long time
o Wolfpack Alpha is the only long-lasting unit with most of its original members still alive
o Had 6 members, now only 4
o Wolfpack Alpha is known for driving most Pack Leaders away because they do not listen to their authority
o Pack Leaders feel disrespected that a “Red” will not listen to them and do as they say
Outside of her job she is a very kind and polite person; very well mannered
She keeps to herself, never gets involved in any else’s business
She has no friends
Both parents died young
Brother is only family remaining but the two have drifted apart after Nyx started promoting anti-Red propaganda
Alpha Pack Squad Leader
Codename: Spider Lily
Named after the spider lily flower (Lycoris radiata), a flower that represents death, the cycle of rebirth, and final goodbyes in Asian cultures
Inspired by Chisato from Lycoris Recoil
As the leader of Alpha Pack, she has gained the utmost respect from all her comrades
No prior military experience before she was dragged into a relocation center at the start of the war
Stand out at military training where she went undefeated in duels (swords)
Easily the best soldier in the country, maybe in the entire world
Quite outgoing, very bubbly personality
Generally easy going as a leader but will dish out strict discipline when she feels she must
Her mother died when she was young and her father abandoned the family shortly thereafter
Her mother and father were the head researchers for Nyx looking into the blood abnormality nicknamed the “Red Disease”
o They, along with Dr. Watanabe, learned that by injecting a “Red” with blood that has a very high red blood cell concentration, they can temporarily give them superhuman stamina and strength
o After learning this and knowing that the government would exploit this research, they attempted to destroy their research
o The government found out and strongarmed the father into killing his wife and abandoning his two children
She became independent at a young age to support herself and her brother going to school. Eventually dropped out and picked up two jobs, one as a waitress at a pub, another as a tutor for young kids, so she can support her brother’s education
At age 13 she suffered a heart attack brought on by high stress, the “Red” disease, and another unknown heart condition. She was on break at her job at the pub. She wasn’t feeling well so she stepped outside for some air. She collapsed in the alley
Dr. Watanabe happens to be walking by and performs life-saving CPR. He gives her drugs that he says will help stabilize her heart condition. She agrees to take them
This is the first version of the drug that Spider Lily’s parents were researching before they were silenced
Dr. Watanabe monitors her for the next couple of days and then leaves for The Great War where he serves as a combat medic
Spider Lily is so grateful that she dedicates the rest of her life to helping and saving others like Dr. Watanabe did for her
She feels a bit lost without Dr. Watanabe and wants to find him but cannot, even after The Great War
Her heart condition makes it so she is running out of time, her condition worsens as the game progresses
The more she exerts herself the less time she has
Comedic relief, breaks the tension of war and the other doom and gloom aspects
Suffers from severe anxiety
She expects the best from herself and will go to any lengths to meet said expectations
Is known as Spider Lily or The Spider Lily Princess because of her high kill count. She has gained notoriety around the world for her combat abilities. Enemies tell legends of how anyone who sees the whites of her eyes dies within 60 seconds
After gaining the nickname she had a tattoo artist give her a tattoo of a spider lily flower (or perhaps embroidered on her jacket)
She specializes in intelligence, utilizing intelligence to put her squadron in the most advantageous positions. She is an excellent tactician and understands in-fight positioning and movement better than anyone else
Has been fighting with nonlethal weaponry since part of the way through the war. She hates killing and especially hates how good she is at killing
At the beginning of the game, she is a 22-year-old
She has never told anyone her real name, she just goes by the nickname “Lily” or “Spider Lily”
Well versed in Taekwondo and Pak Mei
Alpha Pack Second in Command
Codename: Reaper
Rei, written with the kanji for “beautiful”
Second in command, she is Spider Lily’s right-hand gal and closest advisor
Inspired by Takina from Lycoris Recoil
Grew up in a slum to a poor family
Her parents are the founding members of “Little Sister”, an anti-government “terrorist” organization that works to spread awareness of the government’s misinformation and their attempts to cover it up
When she was 14, the Themis and Nyx governments worked together to assassinate Rei’s parents. The man who will later be known as Wrath is the one who pulled off the hit
The government essentially adopted her and raised her as their own. They wiped her memories and, at age 17, made her work as a spy and assassin. She was a prodigy and very adept at killing. When the war broke out, she was sent to the army
Has only fragments of memories of her life before the war. She desperately wants to get her memories back so she can find her purpose in life. Often times she is afraid that her only purpose in life is to kill, as that is the only thing she remembers.
As the narrative progresses and she regains fragments of normal memories, she will eventually come to realize that her past does not matter since she has people in the present who love her
She was a standout soldier who was undefeated in duels
She challenged the also undefeated Spider Lily and lost. She was so amazed by Spider Lily’s skill and abilities that she submitted to being her second in command. Spider Lily was embarrassed but was too afraid and anxious to say no
She has no problem killing anyone who stands in her way
Some would say she even enjoys killing
She reports only to Spider Lily and talks to no one else
She always has a determined look on her face with her eyebrows always pointed down as if she despises everything around her which, to be fair, is a rather safe assumption
She sleeps with a knife in her right hand, always her right hand, even if she is under no threat whatsoever
She would feel more remorse for killing an animal than for killing a human and she is aware of this fact
Has always only ever been about “the mission” and doing whatever is necessary to complete the mission
Her life completely revolves around combat and the military, it’s the only thing she knows
Part of her motivation is to keep up with Spider Lily, someone she idolizes as a soldier and as a person
Despises authority when it comes from anyone but Spider Lily
23-year-old female at the start of the game
Specializes in combat, the strongest in terms of pure combat skills, easily the most adept fighter
The government/military taught her the arts of Aikido and Judo, Aikido being a martial arts form that utilizes dodging and counter attacks as its strengths
Exploring a love interest between Rei and Lily. These two are the most prominent characters in the story and serve as a window into the human aspect of war and death
Alpha Pack Stealth Combat Specialist
Codename: Ghost
Silent but deadly, Ghost excels at stealth combat
Creates an opening for his team by silently taking down enemies, allowing for his teammates to finish the job
Brilliant computer hacker as a teen, he understands how to manipulate computer systems to his advantage
After stealing military secrets from under Nyx’s nose, the Nyx government pardoned him on the condition that he would help them encrypt their messages and military logs. Encryption was a very new concept as computers had only just been introduced to the general public after being a military secret for a while.
Self-taught microelectronic engineer, he has created a device equivalent to a radar jammer that hides his radar signal, keeping him hidden from enemies
He created an EMP device that temporarily disables all the electronics in the area
He is primarily used by Spider Lily to either get into enemy territory to disable their weaponry/technology or to pick off any isolated enemies to create an opening
Ghost is not the most adept at fighting so he utilizes stealth tactics to his advantage
He is a meticulous planner who will gain all the information he can
He is often sent in before a mission to perform reconnaissance
Known for creating extremely detailed terrain maps as well as accurately pinpointing enemy positioning
Spider Lily’s Third in Command. She greatly appreciates all the intel he provides and she utilizes it to come up with different strategies
26-year-old male
Typically wears a black hoodie and black face mask
Enjoys his alone time
Dedicated worker who puts in 100% effort into everything he does
Afraid and reluctant to rely on people
Willing to go to extreme lengths for the sake of the mission
Does not deal with people very well, he didn’t talk to many people growing up
Alpha Pack Sniper Specialist
Codename: Nightfall
Nightfall is a long-range specialist
She is equipped with a .50 cal. BMG along with a short-range fully automatic pistol
Night Fall is arguably the most vital asset for her squad. She keeps her allies covered by dealing devastating damage from the cover of darkness
She always carries a pair of binoculars around and has a spotter’s scope with both thermal and night vision
She is very knowledgeable, well versed in mathematics, physics, and chemistry
Was attending university before the war, studying physics with the hopes of becoming a professor of physics
She loves to read and talk to others about what she is reading or learning
She is regarded as intelligent, passionate, and easy going. She tries to be friendly and talkative with everyone but maintains respect for personal boundaries
Her deep understanding of physics and mathematics makes her a lethal marksman from any range. She spends a lot of time calculating and accounting for every factor into her shot to ensure it hits its target
She is very kindhearted and at first was very reluctant to kill. However, as she gained experience on the battlefield, she has learned to maintain her composure under pressure
Her brother is one of the top particle physicists in the nation who is currently exploring nuclear fission and its possible use in combat and weaponry. She greatly respects him and desires to be as successful as he is
This is the research that is discovered on the remote island at the end of act 1/beginning of act 2
25-years-old at the outbreak of the war, was taken from university at the start of her senior year at the graduate level, very close to earning a PhD
